Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 85 yr young mother has for the past several winters developed a tight cough like feeling (not heart related) coughs up yellow/greenish discharge and Drs still tell her that her lungs sound good and won't prescribe anything to help her. Last night she woke up with her teeth clattering and was as she put it "freezing" and could not get warm. I am concerned but everytime I take her to ER they think it is her heart and have put her through 3-4 stress tests and only to have her Cardiologist say her heart is perfectly fine. This happens when her house is closed up and she has 2 cats, could this be allergy related??????? Don't know what else to do for her.

How Can Chronic Cough Be Treated?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. I think she may be suffering from allergic bronchitis or pneumonia. What about her chest X-ray and total leukocyte count, sputum examination? Avoid cool drinks and frozen water, avoid smoking and caffeine drinks. Avoid animal dander, pollen or cold environment. Use water vapor inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult your physician/pulmonologist they will examine and treat you accordingly. Take care.
