Mole On Lips, Infection, Yellow In Colour. Pimple Or Basal Cell Carcinoma?

Hi, I have a mole that is inferior to my lower lip on the right side. It is usually elevated from the skin, however in the last few days it has become enlarged and appears to be infected in accordance with a yellow color. I am curious as to whether this could just be a pimple forming beneath the mole or basal cell carcinoma?

Hi,
You have not mentioned your age because that is relevant as most cases of cancer occur in the elderly population although younger ones are not immune. It might be a pimple, however, in that event you should experience a good degree of pain given the location of the lesion.
I should also mention to you that cancers arising out of moles can mimic infection because of the necrosis some areas the cancer undergoes. Therefore, it is always advisable to get this mole along with the underlying lesion removed and a biopsy done just to be sure that nothing serious is there underneath. Appropriate therapy can then be instituted based on the biopsy report.
