Mirena felt unknowingly, always have unprotected sex. What could be the cause of not getting pregnant?

hi, im cher and im 20 yrs old. i was once on the mirena and went to the doctor and i found out that i wasnt on it any more but i never seen or felt anything come out of me or never felt the string. they did ultrasounds and didnt find it in my uteris. i was having unprotected sex and never got pregnant. what could be the cause of me not getting pregnant if i wasnt on the mirena at all?
