Migraine, Fatigue, Hair Loss, Stomach Pain. Undergoing Hypothyroid Treatment. Suggestions?

My now 25 year old daughter has been struggling with migraines, extreme fatigue, hair loss and hair texture changes (this can happen one day then again two days or a week later) along with an almost constant stomach ache for about three years. Also, she has stopped ovulating. She has had MRIs, blood tests and various other tests that reveal no clear answers. The MRI did reveal cluster veins, but nothing else. The endocrinologist is treating her for hypothyroidism (lowest dose possible), but isn't sure that's what it is either. Any direction what we should try next?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

It is unfortunate that your daughter has so many problems, and treatment is not helping her much.

For migraines, she could start preventive treatments with medications such as beta blockers, or Topiramate. This would reduce the severity and frequency of migraine attacks. For pain relief during acute migraine attacks, she could use rizatriptan or sumatriptan tablets.

For other symptoms including lack of ovulation, we need to exclude metabolic syndrome and PCOD. Please get her hormones such as FSH and LH tested, and also get an ultrasound of ovaries done. Please show her to a gynecologist.

I hope it helps.

Best wishes,
