If there is any chance of pregnancy, please do a pregnancy test. If that is negative, then your doctor can give you some medicines to control the flow. A checkup is essential before starting any medicine. Delayed cycles may be heavy to begin with, and could last longer than a week, and if pregnancy complications are not the cause, hormones are used to give you relief. An internal checkup and/or a sonogram are necessary to arrive at a diagnosis.
