Lump Under Tail Bone, Painful, Growing Bigger. Underlying Cause?
Hi. I have been in pain for the past 2 days now. I have this lump right under my tailbone near the top of my butt crack and it's very painful. Over the past week it definitely grew bigger. I had this a few years ago but it was small and went away in about 2 weeks so I didn't pay much attention after that. I keep looking things up but I keep scaring myself. Do you know what this might be?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query.
The lump you have on your tailbone could be a pilonidal cyst. It is common for young men and the peak incidence of Pilonidal disease is between 16 and 26.
A Pilonidal cyst may remain harmless. If it becomes infected, however, it will cause pain, inflammation and usually drainage of fluids. So I would suggest getting this evaluated by a doctor for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query
