Are you asking how do they bring your potassium levels back to normal or how do they diagnose Bulima? I'll assume the latter. Bulimia is diagnosed upon symptoms and behaviour. Chemical imbalances such as low potassium is often the result of repeated vomiting. If your levels are low (hypokalemia), you will be given potassium. There are the key features of bulimia which Drs look out for:- Intense preoccupation with body weight and shape. Repetitive episodes of binge eating Binge eating reinforces people's fear of becoming fat and leads to a cycle of repeated counteractive extreme weight control behaviour, such as: Self induced vomiting Laxative and diuretic abuse Fasting Excessive exercise. Treatment aims at solving the underlying problem. Cognitive behaviour therapy for bulimia nervosa (CBT-BN), is a specifically adapted for people with bulimia nervosa. Depending on age, you might be given an SSRI too.

I suffer from bulimia and am having weekly blood tests to check my pottasium levels. A normal level is between 3.5 and 7. If you are bulimic you must get your pottasium levels checked by a Doctor as it is very dangerous if it gets too low. Mine dropped to 2.2, I needed to go in to hospital and have an IV drip which brought my levels back up, however this is only temporary, so I need to take pottsium ssupplements to increase the store in my body. Please do see a Doctor if you are concerned, there is nothing to be embarrased about, they will not put you under pressure but it is definitely not something worth risking.

Sorry that should have said normal levels are between 3.5 and 5.5.

Hi, I am wondering if anybody can help me.... I have had eating disorders on and off since I was 10 years old and although I have been offered a lot of help, I was never in the right place. I am currently planning my wedding (it s in 7 weeks time!!!), selling my house, moving jobs and going through fertility treatment! This has unfortunately brought with it a really bad period of bulimia for me, I am struggling to keep anything down, this includes water..... I have over the last 2 weeks had some strange symptoms, a feeling of tingling/pins and needles in my arms and legs, particularly my hands at non specific times. A feeling that my heart is beating differently, faster and then it almost feels like it skips a beat??!! I know it sounds stupid, but the only other time that I have had similar problems is when my potassium was low, through the bulimia. My doctor did a full check on my blood 3 weeks ago, but the potassium result was stale ?? Does anybody out there think it might be potassium or is it something harmless??? Thanks in advance

hi,I have been having episodes of shortness of breath lately - for about two weeks. This occurs mainly, but is not limited to after meals. It occurs sometimes when I am merely lying down. I used to be bulimic. I haven't been for about 2 months. I am also often constipated.

My friend is a nineteen year old male, and he shows definite signs of bulimia. He has lost 10 pounds in the past two weeks, throws up once a day (and has been for three weeks now), works out excessively, avoids eating, and has binge eating episodes. He has very low self esteem (of his body physique). I've told him to stop or get help, and have shown him websites about the effects it could have on his body if he continues, but he refuses to tell anyone besides me or get treatment. What else can I do?

How can I tell my doctor about my bulimia? Will my doctor tell my parents?

I am 17 years old and have been throwing up every day for like 6 monthes now. Since 6th grade I have been doing these weird ed behaviors like restrict and return to normal habits and then I began purging for a month but still returned to normal. But lately I can’t go one day without purging my food! Every day I wake up and tell myself there is nothing wrong, then I randomly in class I begin to think about all the foods I can eat and purge. I don’t want to do the sports I had passion for because ids rather just go home and purge. Then, it’s when I’m cleaning up all the vomit I realize this is disgusting and not who I am I need help but never do anything because I don’t wanted to be judged and just soooooooo…many reasons. In 55’ and weigh 135 depending on the day like honestly it can raise or drop 5 in a day. There is so much more but yeah!
