Hi, Welcome to HCM. Microcytic hypochromic anemia is usually seen in iron deficiency anemia. In this condition body s iron stores are depleted and red blood cells which require iron do not get sufficient iron and form weak cells which get destroyed easily. Blood transfusion will help for acute anemia but if the main cause of anemia is not treated, anemia can recur. So if he is diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia, then he should be prescribed adequate iron supplements and dietary changes which include iron rich foods. Long term low dose aspirin can cause low platelet count. I suggest you get a prescription for iron supplements and change his diet to include green leafy veggies, fruits and iron rich foods. Thanks.
