Geriatrics Specialist 's  Response
Hello
Thank you for writing to us on Health care Magic.
Based on your history the response to your question is as follows.
1. Infection takes a huge toll mentally on the elderly.
2. This will affect the cognition severely and it will make her deteriorate mentally - which she is at present experiencing as memory problems, etc.
3. It is completely reversible. It would take around 1-2 months. During this time, family support with good care taker round the clock to help her would help her recover faster. Not to worry, hospitalization deteriorates cognition in the elderly.
Hope this is helpful to you.
Do write back to me for further questions.
Thank you
