Losing Hair And Noticed Patchy Spots On My Scalp After The Intake Of Prograf 7 Mg Bid

I am taking Prograf 7 mg bid as I had a liver transplant on July 21/13. I was searching side effects of prograf and notice alopecia is one of them. I am losing more hair than normal and have noticed patchy spots on my scalp. Besides lowering the dose, any other recommendations for limiting hair loss?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Prograf is a brand name of immunosuppressant drug Tacrolimus. Hair fall associated with drug intake will resolve once you stop taking the particular drug. As of now never stop or alter the dose of Prograf as it can lead to unwanted complications including rejection of transplanted kidneys. As of now you can apply minoxidil lotion after getting permission from your treating nephrologist.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
