Longitudinal melanonychia, Finger nails discoloration. Is it serious?

My son went to dr at college for what is called longitudinal melanonychia. He has had it a while and didn t realize it was something ro be concerned about.All his fingernails seem to have a little discoloration darkness under them I am concerned thos my be serious and spreading. Hospital does not have derm at sight and referrals from hospt and general dr not till monday.

hi i had gone through your query and understand your concerns. i would come up with the possibility of
1.a sudden change in the nail plate could indicate a malignant melanoma or lesion.

2. Commonly occur in dark-skinned people, and are normal.
