Knife Wound To Arm, Have Urinary Cath. Still Bleeding, Will Cephalexin Cause Blood Poisoning ?

Recently I sustained a knife wound to my arm, and was treated as a psych pt. The wound wasn't stitched, plus I was forced to have a urinary cath, for reasons I don't know, in the ER. Five days later I'm still bleeding, found out at the pharmacy that the cephalexin was prescribed for a UTI, which I'm very used to. Have a hx of two episodes of pyelonephritis, can't afford the antibiotic, and extremely upset about how I was treated in the ER. I have back pain, not feeling well, but when I had blood poisoning before all I remember is the UTI before I went into shock. Any chance my untreated wound is going to cause a repeat of blood poisoning?

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

If the wound is infected and does not heal property, there is a redness, swelling and pain around it, it can cause sepsis indeed (blood poisoning). Moreover, it seems that you still have an uti what does not help with wound healing for sure and both conditions together can cause life threatening infection.
So please visit your doctor and consider antibiotics usage. You should also wash your wound and change the dressing regularly. Drink plenty of water and try to urinate more often. Cranberries supplementation should be started as well.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
