Knees Aches On Walking Down Stairs, Hot To Touch Knee Insertion, Swelling Near Knee Cap. Solution?
Hello Dr. Grief. My knees are a little achy when going downstairs. They are also hot to touch near the knee insertion of the quadraceps. I have good muscle tone and strength. But may have overused them in my work. I also have problems when I try to get down near the floor or sitting on floor. There seems to be some swelling right on the top of the thigh in the middle near the kneecap but not over the kneecap. I can run and walk just fine. Pain comes from sitting still for awhile. Jayne
It looks from the description that you have PATELLO FEMORAL ARTHRITIS (wear and tear in the cartilage of knee cap bone & thigh bone).
This condition can be managed conservatively by following means - * avoid deep bending activities of the knee joint * active quadriceps strengthening exercises * avoid sitting on the floor with cross legged * Intermittant moist heat appliation over the affected area * analgesic & antiinflammatory medicines as needed * Glucosamine sulphate supplementations
Hope this information is helpful . Good day
