Knee pain, hurts while bending. Can be retro patella pain syndrome. Possible causes and remedies?

My 9 year old son has been having knee pain for the last couple weeks. He says it hurts to keep it bent for any length of time. He is in karate and gymnastics. His gymnastics coach mentioned retro patella pain syndrome . He has a doctor s appointment with his regular doctor on Wednesday, but wanted to do a bit of research first. Any ideas/thoughts?

Thank you for your query.

It is difficult to say what can be the reason for the pain without examining the joint and its range of movements. It is quite possible that your son might have hurt the knee joint while doing gymnastics and/or karate and would need some time to heal. May be a MRI will be required to know the exact pathology.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son an early recovery.
