Jaw Replaced With Metal And Some Hip Bone For Tumor. This Has To Be Replaced With Bone From Rib. Is This Necessary?

I got a tumor on the lower half of my right jaw. My jaw had to be replaced with metal and some hip bone, but my doctor said the metal is only a teperary fix and i would need another surgery to take bone from my rib to replace the rest of the joint. Its been about a year how long until i need the final surgery? Also my doctor said even after the reconstruction is compleate the artifical joints will eventually wear out how often will i have to have surgery to replace the bone?

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The metal implant will not be as comfortable as the bone implant form the rib. It is best to go with your orthopedician's advise and have a surgery to get the metal implant replaced with a piece of rib.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
