Itching in ear. Had put coconut oil, sealed with cotton. Now paining. Suggestions?

I have dry air in the house. In recent few weeks my ear has been itching; I put some coconut oil in the ear and sealed it with cotton plug. However it's very cold and I have a feeling that there is some cotton in the ear though I have used buds a few times to take it away. In recent few days it is paining in the air on and off. Any suggestions?
The place I am living is very cold place.

ENT Specialist 's  Response

Thanks for writing to H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding itcning in ear, so you put coconut oil in ear ,later there develop pain in ear . though you are in doubt ar there may be cotton inside because you are in habbit to clean your ear by cotton bud and possibly cotton of bud is left behid in ear.

I would like to tell you that putting the oil in ear is not a good habbit s oily ear is prone to get infection. Putting the ear bud in ears may also give trauma to ear canal. Therefore in your case possibility of pain is OTITIS EXTERNA. Fungal infection also comes in this group.

Now whatever the infection is ,your ear has to be cleaned properly and this job is possible in a rightway only by ENT specialist thanafter medication is to be given.
