Itching And Redness In Between Inner Thighs And Scrotum. Due To Excessive Sweating?

I have extreme itching in between my inner thighs and and scrotum. It is very deep in my inner thight. More like where my leg is connects to my scrotum area. It is red, bumpy and very irritated. I am rubbing the zinc based rash cream that we use on my 6 month old for any rashes he might get on his bottom. It cannot be sexual because my wife and I are in a long term faithful marriage. But I do wear a suit all day every day and only put baby powder down there before work a few days a week. So I do know that area tends to accumulate a lot sweat during the day. Any thoughts. The itching just woke me up from sleeping.

Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
From your description, you could be having a fungal infection called tinea cruris or just a simple intertrigo due to friction and sweating.
You could use an antifungal cream containing terbinafine for 2 weeks. If there is no improvement, you could use a mild steroid - antifungal combination cream.
Keep the area as dry as possible.
You could also take an antihistamine containing cetrizine at bedtime for about 5 days to relieve the itch.
Hope this helped.
Take care.

Hi,
You are having intertrigo.

Intertrigo is an inflammatory skin condition that can be caused and worsened by many factors. These include:

moisture
heat
lack of air circulation
friction between skin folds
Sweat, urine, and feces contribute to the skin problem.

Intertrigo is often accompanied by an infection caused by:

yeast
other types of fungus
bacteria
You are more likely to get these infections in skin folds because these are areas that are warm and tend to stay moist. This creates a welcome environment for the growth of germs.

Risk factors are..

Obesity
Malnutrition
D M
Poor hygiene
Excessive sweating

To improve and prevent intertrigo...

Improve hygiene
Reduce weight
If there is DM ,control it
Avoid soap
Keep the are dry
Take sitz bath in dettol water

Treatment:

::Where appropriate, antimycotic agents (miconazole, clotrimazole) are helpful, especially if used with a mild- to mid- potency (class III-VI) steroid for a short duration. Avoid using stronger topical steroids because the occlusive effect of skin folds can accelerate the development of skin atrophy and striae.
::Keep the area dry, clotrimazole or fluconazole powder may be sprinkled.
::If there is itching ,take antihistaminic tablet.
::To improve immunity,take immunobuster.

I hope you might be satisfied with my answer.

Regards.
