Itchiness In Clitoris, Swollen Vagina After Every Unprotected Sex. Symptoms Goes After Period. Yeast Infection Or STD?

hello ,
i had unprotected sex with my partner Sept. 18th. everything was fine after intercourse . 2 days later on the 20th i started to have symptoms of itchiness on clitoris & near the vaginal opening , inner lips of vagina felt swollen & underwear caused lots of irritation to vagina. i got my period Oct. 1st and after cycle was over my symptoms had weakened. had unprotected sex again Oct. 9th & like before everything was ok. the next day Oct 10th symptoms were back and more intense than the 1st time. i was really confused when i got my period for the second time that month of October from the 20th to the 25th. after cycle my symptoms were gone completely. Nov. 2 i had protected sex with my partner no issues. Nov 3rd at 6:30 am my partner and i had unprotected sex and just like before everything was fine but the next day nov 4th symptoms are back !! if i put lotion on the irritated dry area the itching stops for awhile but comes back. im extremely scared and concerned cause im not sure whats going on with my body. i have read many reviews from people with my same symptoms some say its a yeast infection , others say it could be a std. please help me find an answer

Hi and thanks for the query,
It might difficult to detect from the description whether it is a yeast infection, bacterial infection or at times both. Unprotected sex for sure is a risk factor. however, a clinical evaluation by your doctor remains the mainstay of the diagnosis and management. You might need a cervical smear and swab to identify the germ. For the moment, cleaning with clean water, avoiding any unprotected sexual contact and consulting your primary care doctor/gynecologist is the best thing to do. You might might also advice your partner to seek medical advice. Kind regards
