Being this isn t my first time with the STI, I was also given ciprofloxcin (2 a day for 2 weeks). STD negative for everything. I went to the doctor Sunday. Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Praveen G's Response
Hello, Welcome to HCM,
urethritis are caused by infection by organisms that enter the urethra from the skin around the urethra's opening.
Most common organism causing urethritis are E. coli , Gonococcus, Chlamydia trachomatis and herpes infection.
Based on the organism causing the present condition, we need to treat the condition.
Antibiotics like Zithromax and metronidazole can successfully cure urethritis caused by bacteria.
Acyclovir is used to treat the condition caused by the virus. So the causative agent should be found out first, before initiating the treatment. Thank you.
