Contraceptives are often prescribed for women with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). They work very well to regulate periods, and also help treat other symptoms of PCOS such as abnormal hair growth, heavy periods, and more. As long as you are not trying to have a baby, they also provide the added benefit of preventing pregnancy. However, the main reason your doctor prescribed this medicine was to treat the PCOS.

If you decide later on that you want to have a baby, talk to your doctor about other options to treat PCOS. I hope this was helpful to you, and that you get relief of your symptoms soon.
