Is X-ray Required For A Severely Bruised Toe?

I stump my big toe by a kid running into me and now the bottom of my toe has a swallon bubble, and it's purple and blue. I can't put any pressure on it, and I have already slightly stum my toe acouple of times and it has brought me to tears. Should I go in for an xray?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

A X ray is only suggested if you suspect that there is some foreign body causing infection. If joint movements at your toe are not restricted then no fracture is present. If there is purplish swelling then you may have to take a tetanus toxoid injection and short duration antibiotics with pain relievers.
