Is Vitamin K2 Supplement Effective In Helping With Calcium Absorption?

I have been looking at information on Vitamin K2 oral supplements to help with calcium absorption. I am currently being treated for osteoporosis/osteopenia with Prolia injections 2 X yearly. I also take levothyroxine, losartan, spironolactone, trospium, and metformin (500 mg). I do not want to start something that would interfere with these treatments, but am concerned about calcium absorption. Is there any value, in your opinion, in adding this vitamin. I do take calcium that contains D3 as well as Theragram M multivitamine that contains small amounts xof calcium and D3, but the Vitamin K is not K2.

Hello,

Yes, vitamin K - keeping calcium in your bones and out of your blood vessels. After it’s carboxylated by vitamin K2, osteocalcin can latch on to calcium and bind it to hydroxyapatite crystals forming the bone matrix.

K2 works synergistically with bisphosphonate drugs such as Fosamax, which lessen bone loss by poisoning osteoclasts (the cells that break down old bone). So many studies have shown that but k is useful for bone mineralization.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
