Is Vaginal Hysterectomy And Ovary Removal Advisable?

I have a prolapsed uterus and there is also some prolapse involving my bladder. My Dr. has recommended a vaginal hysterectomy. Today he also suggested that the ovaries be removed so I can avoid cancer of the ovaries. I am 65 years old but for some reason want to keep my ovaries if I can. What do you think?

Hi. If you would have been less than 50 years, i and your dr. must not have advised you removal of ovaries even if one could be saved to prevent menopausal symptoms and continue production of estrogens. But at 65 , the ovaries must have been atrophic too and you are already menopausal now. So, your dr. is taking right decision and if by chance any episode of ovarian enlargement or any pathology, it will invite another surgery. Otherwise, you can discuss the reason with your dr. , see the scan report about the status of ovaries and then decide. Thanks.
