Is Vaginal Bleeding Between Periods And During Intercourse A Matter Of Concern?

Hi, well I am 48 year old female and have recently begun a new relationship. We have sex quite regularly and I may be considered perimenopausal. I still have regular periods, although I did miss a month several months ago before I began this relationship. I had my regular period then 2 weeks later I had another. Now 3 weeks later I began what I thought was another period during intercourse 2 days ago and it was rather shocking. The bleeding has stopped since then. I had breast cancer with radiation last year. Any concerns here?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think the intermenstrual bleeding is due to perimenopausal state and hormone insufficiency. I don't think you can have hormone replacement therapy because of your history of breast cancer.

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
