Is turmeric advisable for knee pain while having patellofemoral pain syndrome?

I am 59 years old and have been diagnosed with patellofemoral syndrome in both knees. Severe pain daily for 2 years and nothing has helped the pain. No medicines and they do not reccommend surgery. Would tumeric be an aid in alleviating some of my pain? I also try swimming a bit.
