Hi..

Well it looks like Tonsillitis that is pointing towards bacterial throat infection as per your explanation.

Tonsillitis can be very well treated with medication and it doesn't need to be always treated with Tonsillectomy.

In some extreme cases of frequent recurrence and in some other chronic infection and inflammatory conditions of the tonsils Tonsillectomy is done.

So for now consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated.
A clinical examination and throat swab culture can help in diagnosis.

A course of antibiotics can be advised along with anti inflammatory painkillers like Advil and a steroid shot if swelling is severe.
Do warm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash gargles.
Avoid spicy and irritant foods.

If the condition recurs frequently then Tonsillectomy can be thought of.

Hope I have answered your query.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
