Seroquel is an anti-psychotic cum antidepressant. It is not used for induction of sleep. Your sleep is getting better because it has sedating property. Its side effects are sedation, headache,
dizziness, weight gain, weakness, anxiety, irritability, peripheral swelling, increased appetite, anemia and
neutropenia. These side effects are not seen in all patients usually resolve on continuation of Seroquel.
Blood test is recommended to monitor its effects of blood. Seroquel is a good medicine for treatment of
depression with psychotic symptoms.
Advice
1. Continue Seroquel as suggested
2.
Zolpidem at bed time per oral for 30 days for sleep
3. Do not use Zolpidem for more than 30 days
4. Avoid driving & swimming because it may impair ability to drive or operate machinery
5. Stop smoking, alcohol and coffee as it might impair your sleep
6. Try to have time for exercise. Start workout at least half an hour in a day for 5 days in a week. It will induce sleep
7. Investigation every 3 months for monitoring purpose
a. total and differential count of white blood cells
b. blood
hemoglobin percentage
If you face side effects then consult your doctor for review of medicines. Other better medicines such as citalopram/escitalopram are available for treatment of depression.
