Is There Bleeding During Pregnancy?

My periods were delayed and finally when I got my periods the flow is not as much as it normally was. This concerns me and I was wondering if this is the sign of early pregnancy. However, the bleeding is not that minimal too . Do we normally bleed during pregnancy? If its not pregnancy then what could be the reason for my light periods this time?

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Subtle changes in menstrual characteristics like volume of flow and duration are not uncommon. Normally there should be no bleeding during pregnancy. All bleeding during pregnancy raises the question about a possible abortion. I will suggest you treat this as your menses. If they should persist beyond 7days, excess bleeding and severe pains, then get consulted and investigated for appropriate treatment.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
Thanks.
Dr. Ditah, MD.
