Is There Any Risk Of Damage To The Kidneys From Nuclear Stress Test?
My husband will be having a nuclear stress test next week and I am wondering about the injected material. He is a Type 2 diabetic on metformin and Lisinopril. Is there any risk of damage to the kidneys with the test and should he have a creatinine level
Thanks for your question on HCM. In my opinion you should definately get done creatinine as he is diabetic and also on metformin. Both these can damage kidneys. And there are two types of contrast materials are used. Ionic and non ionic. Non ionic are less injurious to kidneys so now a days non ionic contrast is used in almost all centers. Contrast induced kidney damage is oxidative stress mediated. So anti oxidants lije N Acetyl Cystiene is given 1 day prior to tge test. So ask your doctor about this.
