Is There Any Option Other Than Surgery For Removing External Piles ?

Hello Doctor!! My brother who is39 yr old is been suffering from piles and from last 1 week he is at home with too much pain in his bottom. Also he is vomiting bec he is constipated. He showed himself to the local hospital where they suggested him surgery to remove the piles. Is there any other option for removing the external piles rather than surgery? Thanks

Welcome to HCM

There are certain measures which can reduce the symptoms and prevent recurrence of piles, but if Surgery has been advised after examination, then it should be done.

Symptoms can be reduced by relieving constipation, for that it is important to

1) Take oral laxatives and stool softeners,

2) Take Fibre foods like Whole wheat bread, biscuits, fruits and nuts. Date is natural laxative. He can also use Ispaghula Husk.

3) Drink plenty of liquids.

4) Dont strain.

5) Keep the anal area clean to avoid infection.

6)Apply Ice-packs on the anal area for upto 10mins 4 times a day.

7)Use Sitz bath with warm water, you can get it at a medical stores.

I hope this answer help your brother.

Hi there. Thank you for posting your question with Healthcaremagic. I will do my best to help you.

Your brother may need an enema or a suppository like Dulcolax to clear out his bowels. For pain relief he should use a topical anaesthetic like Emla or Bonjela applied liberally to his anus.

For the moment he does NOT need surgery. He needs to radically rethink his eating habits. This is his real problem. He needs loads of roughage -- fruit, veg, potato skins etc

I hope that I have answered your questions fully and been of some help. If you have anymore questions please contact me again anytime.
