Hello doctor, I am a 65 year old lady , 5.2 in height, weighing 56kg. Have mild diabetis that is under control through medication. Currently my BP fluctuates between 142/80 to 150/90. Recently had red patches in the left eye (painless) which the ophthalmologist diagnosed as a minor superficial blood vessel rupture - conjunctival haemmorage of minor superficial blood vessel , as it was completely painless, he diagnosed it as harmless. It has healed now. However he advised taking Olmesar 20mg to control BP as a precautionary measure. Took a 2nd opinion from another medicine specialist, he prescribed Targit 40 mg. Is it recommended to start HBP medicines with this kind of readings in BP? Which is a better medicine without any side effects? Is it advisable to rely on Natural Supplements like Systolex instead of taking these medicines? Please advice. Regards, SM
I just turned 66 years old. My blood pressure is normally around 125/75 or thereabouts. Last week it went up to 140/80. I had been consuming about a quart of strong black coffee every morning and usually a cup in the afternnoon. I have been montoring it for the last 5 days and have been off caffeine for a week now. The readings I have been getting for the last 5 days have ranged from 130/81 down to 126/79. I do not take medicine for high blood pressure. I went to the doctor a week ago and the bp reading was 140/80. There was only one reading taken. He immediate prescribed bp medicine which I have not taken but since I ve given up caffeine it has been slowly dropping back to a normal range for me. Should I be concerned? I don t want to be on bp medicine if I don t need it.
I recently experienced an elevated blood pressure of 198/103 while in the dentist s chair awaiting two surgical extractions. The dentist would not start , understandably so. Thereafter I went to see my primary care doctor, whose nurse practitioner gave me a Clonidine pill and a prescription for it. I was previously taking 100mg of Losartan. once a day without side effects. She has me taking Clonidine twice a day. W hile my blood pressure has significantly lowered, I do not like the effect of this medication, especially taking it twice a day. I feel the Circumstances elevated my pressure. This all occurred on Wednesday. I am going back yo see her today at 2pm. I also take a natural supplement called Michael s Blood Pressure factors, which contains Calcium, Magnesium and Hawthorn Berry. I have also looked into a high blood pressure diet, since I believe nutrition plays a huge part in our well-being. I also regularly walk twice a day. What are your thoughts? Damaris Thomas
Dr. Oz, I know you're show is geared mostly towards women but I really am in dyer need of help. I'm a 22 year old male and I'm currently taking two 20mg instant release Adderalls a day. My blood pressure is normal on a daily basis, but high blood pressure and heart disease does run in my family. My concern is in regards to Erectile Disfunction. It is a real self confidence killer! My penis doesn't get fully erect when I'm about to have sex, its hard but not where it can stay up the air hard..excuse the reference. Also some other times it will get hard, but it will not stay that way for long amounts of time. Does anyone know why this could be? I also have trouble staying hard. For example if it slips out, there is a switch of positions,or the slightest distraction, it wont remain hard. I take adderall but don't notice a difference in this when I take it and when I don't. I exercise regularly (4-5x a week) and eat relatively healthy(for a college student). I am stressed a lot and i know that could be a cause of my problems. but does anyone have any ideas? Also is it to early for someone my age (22) to take pills such as viagra or cialis? What are the long term side effects?
I am 74 years old and have experienced hot flushes since menopause (at age 54). I experience moderate to high blood pressure and most medications for this make my symptoms worse. I have heart palpitations during these uncomfortable symptoms, experience fatigue and have night sweats which wake me up. I have Sjoegren's Syndrome with Sicca, and Peripehral neuropathy and most other aging symptoms. I don't have dementia, thankfully, but I am curious as to whether hot flushes are impacting on my blood pressure and contributing to my anxieties or could it be caused by my thyroid? My tests show a normal reading for my thyroid. I also had cancer of the uterus, grade 1, and had everything removed nine years ago and have remained cancer free to date. I hope you can help me find a way to improve the situation as I don't have any blocked arteries or heart problems so it is a mystery to me. I am worried about the impact it may eventually have on my heart. Sincerely yours,
Hello. I'm male. I'm 45 years old and I got high pressure blood since 17. I am currently taking 5 drugs to control (not at all) my high pressure blood. In a recent Renal Angiography was discovered that I have my left kidney hypotrophic with important loss of parenchyma in the middle and lower thirds. Analyses of plasma renin revealed that is high.
This hypotrophic kidney (left) is working by 37% and 63% right according to a renal scintigraphy. The recommendation of my doctor(nephrology) is to get me out my hypotrophic kidney to control the high pressure blood and avoid having to take so many drugs.
