Is there any medicines that can cure chronic depression permanently ?

my mother is sufferring from chronic depression time to time during last 8 years. Earlier she was given SERENATA and the drug responded well and she recovered. After 2 years she faced the same problem and the doctor prescribed her MIRTAZ 15 (1 tab daily). This tome also she recovered. She took the medicines for 9 months both times. Now she is facing the same problem. Today doctor prescribed herXET CR PLUS 25 and XENOTRIL SL .025 1 tab daily. I am sorry that your mother is suffering from this depression for the last 8 years. The fact that she is getting it every year or almost every year shows that it is a genetic disorder and so she has to be prevented from this recurrence bur cannot stop it altogether. It is like diabetic that cannot be cured but can be prevented by drugs. I find that she is on the correct drugs but the mood stabilizer is not being given . There are a number of drugs to prevent this recurrence like Tegretol, Lithium, Valporate etc . If she is given them in the correct dosage ., you can prevent the next years recurrence. This disease of recurrent depression has a great tendency to occur at the same time of the year and so it is called SAD. which means Seasonal Affective Disorder

I had a full hysterectomy a year ago and started on premarin, unfortunately my insurance wouldn t cover it so my doctor put me on estradiol. I am just wondering what the differences are? I have put on a lot of weight since hysterectomy and can t seem to lose weight. Does it have to do with medication? As well as my breasts are very sensitive? And would either of these drugs help with depression?

I stopped taking lithium 675 gms / day suddenly 2 weeks ago after being on it for 18 months. i experienced constant stomach cramps and persistent diahrrea and a metalic smell from my stools . i m now experiencing return of severe depression . i m attempting to contact my psychiatrist to get advice as he did initially tell me to reduce to 450 gms which I did but above side effects persisted. Should I go back on it for a while and then come off it gradualiy? I t felt like i was being poisoned. The above side effects appeared about 6 weeks ago.
