Hi,
You should understand the importance of stroke.Early treatment better the outcome.Treatment depends on Ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke.Since you are unable to take her to hospital, atleast you can call RMP doctor or nurse to put IV line and hydrate her with normal saline,if that is also not possible try to give her 3 litres of water per day.Injection citicholin 500mg twice daily will take care of both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke.Iv mannitol will reduce edema Check BP if high try to control it with medicine like amlodepine 5mg daily or twice daily depending on blood pressure.(to keep 130-140/90-100 range.Ryles tube insertion and medicine if not taking orally with the help of any nurse

I think if you took her to the hospital and they see that she is in need of medical attention and can't afford it they will get her the help she needs. She does need to get help and it's to bad people are going without medical insurance in this country.Take Care,Deb Bonanno.

Hi,Welcome to HCM.
Read your problem. She definitely will require medications so what you can do is take her to the doctor tell him that you cannot afford to keep her in hospital so ask him to give medications you can give at home. You can learn how to give physiotherapy and you can give at home.
Wish her good health.

My mothers brother in India has had a stroke in the last few hours. The Hospital (PGI in Chandighar) is refusing to admit him, instead they have done preliminary checks and I believe they have given a dose of t-PA and sent him home. Is this correct procedure for India? As a student doctor in the UK I feel this is substandard and bad treatment. Also How should the patient be treated if they are at home? Since certain monitoring deviced are not available.

My grandmother had a stroke and will most likely by coming to live with us for recovery. What are the main things we need to focus on? Do we need to get a hospital bed? Our house is sort of small...what kind of machines do you think we re going to have to bring home to keep her happy and healthy? Right now (the stroke happened Thursday night and it s now Monday night) she is awake and speaking, though her words and garbled unless she forces herself to talk loud. Her spirits are good, but I ve had several people say that symptoms will continue to show up for weeks and months afterwards. She is 84...how much recovery can she be expected to make at that age? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I just don t know what to do. We ve got to sell her house, I guess, to afford a lot of this stuff, and with her moving in with us...things are just going to be...different. Hope that you can help with my rambling questions, I appreciate it! ~Joshua~

Hello Doctor, My name is Careyanne Johnson I am a 21 year old female. I am growing concerned with my well being because I have been experiencing some foreign symptoms. Starting with today the right side of my mouth has been partially numb for going on several hours now & I am having throbbing headache that comes and goes behind the back of my lower head & temples. Just a couple days ago my toes (on the right side again) were numb as well. I have also been having sharp, deep chest pains for a few months now. At first I thought it could maybe be heart burn but realized it is a much different ache. I think its safe to say the chest pains have grown more frequent because I m counting them every day now instead of once or twice a week. The only other symptoms I can think of is my ears will ring every now and then but still more so then I would think is normal. & I feel like I have poor circulation to my legs cause sometimes they feel stiff, however I also have a job where I stand without sitting for up to 8 hours a day. I have had Health issues in the past where I would become very light headed, my vision would go black, and I sometimes would faint. the fainting spells never lasted more then 5 mins. I was only unconscious for 30 seconds to 1 min. I have seen a neurologist and he conducted many tests, an MRI or brain scan being one of them. My results were all negative. The dr. did refer me to a cardiologist that I never went to. My fear is I may have a stroke or heart attack please help!

The question is about my son. 18 yr old athlete. He was lifting weights doing an overhead press. He felt a pop or crack in his neck and some pain. very soon after that he got a Migrane headache. He has got them before when he didn t have good sleep habits. This Migrane seemed stronger than previous ones but he did not throw up. The next day he woke up with a very sore neck and numbness on the left side of his body. The numbness was in the back of his arm and down his leg. We took him to the hospital and he started a bunch of tests. MRI s, Echo, ect. Things they found were. The possibility of two very small dots on the occiptial lobe of the brain which they said could be there and if so could represent a stroke but also could not really be there. They said he has Chiari Type 1 which could be the cause. They don t believe there has been a disection of arteries in the neck according to MRI s. He did not have a PFO. We left the hospital yesterday with a wide range of possibilities from very scary to no big deal. He continues to have numbness in his left arm and leg. Also he hasn t had a stool movement for a couple of days which is atypical. My questions are 1. If its just a pinched nerve then how long would the numbness typically last. 2. from looking at the information on the web is it possible he had a Sporadic Hemiplegic Migraine (SHM) and if so how long does the numbness usually last in those cases. 3. Does the Chiari have an effect on the nervous system after an injury. The web seems contradictory in this area. 4. Can a stroke or mini stroke be associated with a minor neck injury. 5. How do we know if the chiari is affecting his nervous system. My son is a college football player and its a big part of his life. So this has the family very concerned.

hello doctor, while I was on my vacation in India I had a stroke there. I was standing in my balcony at that time and my mother called me from behind, as soon as I turned back I fell to ground. I regained my senses after around 35 40 minutes and I didn t remember what happened to me at that time. my whole body shock for few minutes with a liquid coming out of my mouth. All the scans(MRI, ECG, EEG) were done as per directed by doctors there. After the results they told me about having a clot in my brain because of high cholesterol levels. I am taking crestor 10 mg with aspimed 75 mg daily one tab after dinner. Even after having these medicines I am having unbearable head ache sometimes at night and I am not able to sleep properly. Please advice......
