Is There A Need To Worry With Negative Rapid Alere Combo Tests After Having Unprotected Oral Sex?

Hi Dr., I am a male and had a sex exposure (protected anal) and unprotected oral sex with a male, and licked his ass also. I did a rapid Alere Combo test at 9th and 10th day and a CMIA Ag/Ab at day 20. All were negative. Should I worry? Of course I will repeat CMIA Ag/Ab at week 6 and week 12. Thanks

Hello,
Unprotected sex orally, anal or vaginal has got all the potential to transmit HIV and STI.
As you had oral sex definitely you are at risk, if your partner is having HIV.Combo test of P 24 antigen and HIV 1/2 test helps to know the HIV infection.
Antibodies against HIV virus will appears after 8 weeks following possible exposure and it may take maximum of 6 months.
You may be in the window period, HIV 1 P 24 antigen is useful during the initial period i.e. 2-4 weeks after infection.
You have to undergo HIV 1/2 test after 90 days of possible exposure to confirm
your HIV status.
Thank you.
