Is There A Difference Between Zithromax And Azithromycin?

In the past I have taken zithromax zpack 250 and had very few side affects from it. However, the pharmacy substituted azithromycin 250 6tabs and I am having a headache, nausea and severe diarehha. It is because it is a generic form of the original z pack? I have to be very careful of medications as I am a medicine sensitive patient. My doctor prescribed zithromax, but the pharmacy substitued. Could there be a difference in the medication?

Hi my dear,

Zithromax is the brand name for generic Azithromycin. Your pharmacy did not substitute the active ingredient ,which is azithromycin in both cases, but only the trade name.

You are taking azithromycin as prescribed from your doctor. So , you do not need to worry. Headache, nausea and severe diarrhea might be due to possible stomach viral infection or other types of GI infection that need to get further evaluated.

Wish fast recovery!
