Is The Sudden Dizziness Due To The Side Effect Of Contraceptive Pill?

Hello, I have been on the birth control pill for 3 years now but this past month I had a UTI and surgery done on my ear so I had been on anti-biotics two week prior to having unprotected sex exactly a week ago. The next morning I went and bought the morning after pill. My period is regular and I was supposed to start it today. I have not started it and while standing in the shower 30 minutes ago I began to black out and my head was hurting it, I felt so heavy and just fell and I was still concious because I was calling for help but I saw nothing but static. I couldn t really see anything. I really hope this is just a side effect and not pregnancy.

Hello
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. The episode of dizzy and blackout is suggestive of some inner ear pathology more rather than medication side effect. As you have mentioned you underwent ear surgery but precisely did not elaborate the issue in the query.
It is not very common to have such side effects with contraceptive pills but pregnancy in early stages can cause such symptoms. To rule out pregnancy take a test at home with early morning urine sample or blood Beta HCG levels.
Once the test come negative, consult the doctor who treated you for the ear issue as inner ear can be the most likely cause of the symptom. Inner ear controls the balance and posture of body and any disturbance in inner ear can cause vertigo or blackout.
Hope your concern is answered. Thank you.
