Is The Shaking A Recurrence Of Epileptic Seizures?

My son is 8 years old and had epilepsy when he was younger. He came off his meds when he was 5 and has been seizure free since. He has started to have episodes at night after he has been sleeping for several hours where he wakes up and is half asleep and half awake, it seems. He can t stop shaking like he is cold. He can talk to me and he says he feels weird. He can t explain the feeling. Is this a sign of a seizure, to me it seems like a misfire of some sort.

If you are saying that you are son is "shaking like he is cold" and is awake and alert enough to be speaking coherently to you then, it is not likely any type of generalized seizure. Other causes need to be looked at such as chronic infectious conditions, hypothyroidism, other endocrine problems. With a history of epileptic seizures if he were my patient I may also consider getting an ambulatory EEG on him, a polysomnogram (sleep study), and if these episodes are frequent enough (several times a week) I may even consider doing video EEG monitoring by holding him in the hospital for 3-5 days to see what can be recorded regarding these episodes.

If I've adequately answered your questions could you do me a huge favor by including some fine words of feedback along with a 5 STAR rating if you feel my answers/suggestions have helped? Again, many thanks for posing your questions and please let me know how things turn out.
