Is The Platelet Count Fluctuation Normal After Dengue Fever?

hi, my husband had dengue fever and was discharged from the hospital with a blood platelet count of 1,40,000. After 2 day, his count was 1,20,000. then again it increased to 1,30,000. yesterday it was 1,00,000. Is this fluctuation normal in dengue ? for how long will it continue?

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

It is not about Dengue only. Platelet fluctuation happens to everyone daily. In fact this dengue scare has made people more wary about platelets.

None of the blood components in that CBC are the same. They will vary within minutes of each other. In fact the counters have also showed variation in the count, and this I have done personally- took two a sample, divided into two, and did the tests in two different labs- got 2 different results.

The point is that there are many things that judge the number of counts. Its not just about someone having dengue.

So relax. Its ok. And as long as he does not bleed, platelet counts do not hurt

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.
