Is Taking Finasteride Safe To Treat Urinary Incontinence?

Hi, My father is 58 years old and he has prostate enlargement issue. We are taking ciprofloxacin to cure the infection and now the frequency of urine and pain while urinating is getting better but he still have some issues in the flow of urine which is not continuous so my sister who is a doctor is United states has recommended Finasteride 5mg once everyday by mouth. Can you please tell if this medicine has any side effects . Please explain. Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

Finasteride is generally prescibed for Benign prostate hyperplasia, a condition in which prostate gland enlargea leading to obstruction in urine flow and manifest as poor stream of urine and sense of incomplete voiding.

This drug has some side effects like erectile dysfunction and other sexual dysfunction when taken from prolonged duration.

another alternative is tamsulosin group of drug which also help in prostate enlargement.
