Is Taking Cortisone Shot Advisable For Severe Pain Post Knee Arthroscopy?
I had ACL surgery to lf knee 23 yrs ago. Most recently, I had lf knee arthroscopy w/partial medialand lateral meniscectomy on 9/10/15. I was doing fine until late December when I went to bend my lf leg felt a couple of pops and was in severe pain... eventually it subsided but I ve been experiencing increasing pain ever since with inflammation and instability in the knee. I was treated with a 10 day course of anti-inflammatory and now the doctor wants to do cortisone. I don t want the cortisone... I ve done PT and nothing is making it better, just gets worse. My pre-surgical MRI states that my acl reconstruction has a tear/fraying..... I m concerned that it s only a matter of time in which I would need to re-do that surgery as well and why did the doctor go in and to the meniscus clean out and what do I do now?
From the information provided, I too believe that a repeat arthroscopy may be required, but before that an MRI should be consucted and compared with the previous MRIs. Once the cause is established, we can go in for the arthroscopy.
If you do not want the cortisone, it is completely up to you ma'am/sir, the only reason it would have been prescribed is to releive you of your pain, but as you know this is temporary.
