Is Taking Concor Safe Instead Of Tenormin For Elevated Heart Rate?

I am using tenormin 25 mg since 15 years for tachycardia and it worked perfectly. But since last few months my heart rate remains between 85-100/min. Now doctor has suggested me to take 25mg twice a day OR to switch over to Concor 5mg in morning and 5mg in evening. Please guide me, which one would be a better choice?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern for the efficacy of the two given medications.
Concor is a better choice in reducing the elevated heart rate.

Both Concor (Bisoprolol) and Tenormin (Atenolol) belong to cardioselective beta blocker effective in in the treatment of high BP, angina pectoris and to reduce increased heart beats.
From the safety point of view there is no significant difference between the two is found except for greater heart rate reduction with Concor.

Hope this answers your query.
