Is Swollen And Bruised Foot After Fall Serious?

My 11 year old daughter fell down the last stair last night, landing on the outside of her foot. It s a little swollen and bruised. She can walk but not put full pressure on it. I m. It sure if it s just bruised from the fall or could she have done something more to it? I m a bit thrown off because she can still walk. But it is really sore?!

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us

From description it seems to be soft tissue injury .
She need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. She may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.Beside icing and elevating it, she can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.

Hope this helps you. Let me know if you have any more concern.
