Is Swimming Safe When Skin Between The Toes Is Soft And Has Fissures?

thank you, I am not sure if I have athletes foot. My skin between my toes will be soft and peel and I will have open fissures and then sometimes it will close back up some and then something will cause it to open up again...I KNOW I should see a DR. right now though is it safe for me to go swimming. I love the beach and also there is a community pool in our apt. complex

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, Thanks for posting your query on Healthcare Magic...
* Brief Answer: swimming is not dangerous but you would better keep your feet dry .
*Explanation: My opinion is that you have an athelete foot which is basically a fungal infection inbetween toes and this condition sometimes develops into a chronic stage. Precipitating factors include ;wet feet and tight prolonged shoes wearing.
I suggest my patients the following :keep these area dry, Some body powders may help with that. Also local and systemic antifungal may be used
The information provided by you is not sufficient to provide a good opinion. If someone comes to me with this condition I would ask them about any other skin infections in any other areas.also if you have diabetes or not.

*Conclusion: I suggest you stay away of swimming pool, keep your feet dry ,seek medical attention if needed.

If you have any further questions I will be happy to help, If not, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish you good health.
