Is Swelling In Throat A Sign Of Strep Infection?

I have been rushed to the hospital twice now. For what they believe is strep. They put me on clindamycin, I was previously on another antibiotic for about a day, they they gave me a shot of it. When will they start working. I really feel like my throat is swelling shut, but the hospital assures me it's not. Please help, I just want to sleep.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain in case if you have swollen throat along with throat pain or sore throat it can be due to infection in throat and the most common cause is bacterial infection also known as Strep throat..
Other causes of swelling in throat can be viral infection, acid reflux, allergic reaction, post nasal drip etc..
I would suggest you to consult an ENT expert and get evaluated and he can do a throat swab culture to rule out for infection and if needed can advise you investigations like Upper GI endoscopy..
In case if infection is ruled out antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkillers like Advil, warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and sucking throat lozenges will help..
Sip plenty of warm water, avoid spicy food and chew Vitamin C pellets..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
