Is Surgery The Only Option For Tearing Of Achilles Tendon And Calf Muscle In A 80year Old?

My husband is 81 years old, has been on long term steroid use (10mg daily) and recently was diagnosed with Asthma for which he uses an inhaler (Symbicort). About three weeks ago he tore his achilles tendon of his left ankle. Last September he tore the calf muscle in the same leg. Would you recommend surgical repair, or more conservative treatment?

Hi
It is hard for achilles tendon to heal conservatively i think surgery is good option if he is permitted to be given anaesthesia.
Because treating conservatively will make him bed ridden for a long time and if surgery is done he can be ambulated non weight bearing with slab along with walker very soon.
Take proper decision.
Get well soon.
Thank you.
