Is Surgery The Only Option For Fractured Metatarsals In Foot?
Hi yesterday I fractured 2 metatarsals in my left foot, I went to the ER room and was diagnosed. The orthopedic dr cannot see me until tomorrow afternoon to cast it or tell me what s next. Will I most likely be taken out of work? I have an office job. Also surgey, II s thus common?
As per my clinical experience, there are various options for management of fractured metatarsals in the foot. If there is hair line crack, conservative management with - Bed rest - Plaster cast - Analgesic and anti inflammatory medicines - Physiotherapy later on as per the recovery and need
If there is extensive fracture, segments separated, open wound with protruding bones, open surgery with nailing is must.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
