Is Surgery Required For Spondylitis In Spine?

Background: My x-ray impressions were: spondylitis throughout the spine; osteophytes L1-L2, L5-S1; and slight lumbar scoliosis. Sx: Affecting ADLs, constant pain, parethesis, cannot stand or sit for long periods, stiff, bladder/bowel incontinence; lose strength in right leg. Age: 53

Question: Is surgical intervention required?

In your detailed description you have not mentioned about-1.is there any canal stenosis or any nerve compression because of disc prolapse.if the answer is yes then by doing surgery we can remove the pressure on spinal cord/nerve that shuld help.
but if your problem is because nerve/spinal cord disease i am sorry surgery won't help.
