Is Surgery Required For Bening Thyroid Cyst?

I have a thyroid cyst 3X2.8cm in size located on the left lobe and isthemus.I have undergone FNAC and reports say its benign . my oncologist suggests an operation to remove the cyst ..which means he will remove both left lobe and isthemus...i will have to take medicines all my life....is the surgery really necessary...can i live with the cyst...as my thyroid function blood tests have all come back normal?

The size of the cyst is pretty significant.it can cause pressure symptoms like throat irritation,difficulty in swallowing and change in voice..
symptoms depends on the severity of compression.Sometimes you won't feel any abnormality at present but you can have later.
Just check the scan report and find out any retrosternal extension,ie wheather the thyroid is extending behind the sternal bone.In that case the surgery is really warranted.Later it cause complications.
Hence it is better to go for surgery and start thyroid replacement
