Ok, I am currently under the care of a GI Surgeon and I already have a diagnosis, However I need a more straight forward answer here. I was diagnosed with GERD, and I understand medically tests need to be ran. I had an Upper Endoscopy completed which was how the diagnosis was founded. It has caused me a great deal of discomfort. Then I had a 24 hour Ph study done as well which I am still waiting to hear the results from since the surgeon is on vacation, and I completely understand Physcians need time off. The office staff however, gave me an impression I would hear back pretty quick, and when I called them, they apologized for failing to inform me he would be off for two weeks so it would be awhile before hearing back and according to them, he is the only physician in that entire hospital that can read and interpret those tests. All that said when I go in for my follow up, am I in a position to ask that we stop all the testing and we go for surgery? After researching it, I have learned surgery to correct GERD has a very high success rate and with me being 22, obviously I am going to heal faster than someone who is 42. Though the recovery afterwards isn t something I am all that excited about, if anytime would be good to perform that surgery it would be now, hence I see it as a win win for me in the long run.
