Is Sudden Intense Nausea, Vomiting, Light Headedness And Dizziness Related To Food Poisoning?

went to er yesterday, had a very sudden and intense nausea, vomiting, clammy, light headed, felt like I was going to pass out. kind of a car sick feeling. If I moved my head or eyes I would throw up. they said gastrointestinal but really only addressed the vomiting and cramping. I am still very light headed or my head feels heavy. they gave me lactaid, dicycloine, ondansetron, and cholestyramine. none of which seem to help with the dizziness or light headed. I was fine, energetic took a supplement called thrive in the am, ate breakfast, drank a glucerna and had taco salad for lunch. not 10 mins later, severe bloating and burping then 10 mins later violent vomiting with 1 episode of diarrhea. head spinning and had stay sitting on bathroom floor keeping my eyes closed and head hung low to keep from vomiting. question could this have been food poisoning and what can I do about the light headedness

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Food poisoning causes intense nausea and vomiting and due to loss of electrolytes and water the patient may also get dizzy and lightheaded so the symptoms might be related. You will need to take oral rehydration solutions to substitute both water and electrolytes to improve your symptoms if they are related to the vomiting.
Another cause of the symptoms can be due to a problem with the inner ear called labirinthytis which is generally a viral condition and takes 1-2 weeks to go away. Cetirizine can be used to help with it and rest as possible.

I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
